SWR Camp N Ride 2015 - Great Success!

The Skylands Womyn Riders 2015 Camp N Ride was a great success with nine women attending.  The weather for the entire weekend was perfect; clear skies with a hint of white puffy clouds, cooler temperatures at night making sleeping a dream, and not to hot during the day.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather.

The ride out to Steel Steads Motorcycle Campground  In Milton, PA, was fun and unhurried.  We arrived at the Steel Steeds campground just in time to unload our gear, set up our tents and head for dinner.  The food at the Steel Steeds Chow House is wonderful!  The rent-a-tents were already set up for us and much larger than we anticipated.  Picnic tables with a canvas over them were set up in our reserved camping area. Thank you, Steel Steeds, for setting up our site to make it easy for us  to be together and comfy enough to be separated when needed.  This campground is great!

After dinner, some moseyed over to nearby LT’s Tavern for a night of great music and some dancing.  Others stayed at the campsite relaxing around the campfire. Eventually, we all sat around the fire relating to each other’s experiences, laughing and having a grand ol’ time.  Fun and laughter filled the air until we were all so tired we called it a night.  Sleeping on the banks of the river made for a peaceful nights sleep.

We began Saturday morning with some campfire coffee while getting ready for breakfast.  A full breakfast before a full day of riding was the perfect start to a fun filled day!  We had a brief riders meeting before heading out to spend the day riding and taking in the beautiful countryside roads.

Our first stop was at Raymond B. Winter State Park, which featured a small lake for swimming and a beautiful waterfall.  We rested a bit before heading out to more farmlands.  The Amish in their horse-drawn buggies were spotted a few times as we continued.  We even saw a young Amish boy and girl with a small pony leading a cart as we rode through a small town.

Our next stop was for some gas before heading over to the Elk Creek Café in Millheim, PA, for lunch.  This café offers a healthy menu at reasonable prices.  We spent our lunchtime talking about what each of us noticed on the ride.  After lunch, we spent some time walking through the town, browsing in stores and window shopping.  We met some other riders from South Jersey also enjoying the countryside and the hidden treasures this small town had to offer.

Then we were on our way again, taking some nice winding roads to bring us through Lewisburg, PA.,  a small town filled with Bucknell College students returning to begin yet another year of schooling.

When we arrived back at the campground later that afternoon, there was plenty of time to relax and relate before having dinner at the Chow House.  Again, another excellent dinner was provided by the campground, without us having to get back on the bikes.

A huge fire was lit and many sat around the community campfire the campground offers to all guests.  This was just another opportunity to relax, relate and rejuvenate after a wonderful day of riding.  An after-dinner stroll along the side of the river was definitely a mind clearing experience.  A small family of geese actually decided to join us on our walk.  We closed the evening by sitting around our own campfire in our own camping area.

When Sunday morning came, the last thing we wanted to do was pack up and leave the campground, but all great things must come to an end.  We enjoyed our last meal for the weekend at the campground, another wonderfully delicious full breakfast, as we relaxed by the riverside Chow House. We then packed our bikes and headed out for another ride, this time heading to Bill’s Old Bike Barn in Bloomsburg, PA.   Bill has collected many motorcycles over the years.  We spotted a 1937 Knucklehead, a 1959 Duo Glide, and so much more.  You can even take a stroll down Memory Lane with its old-fashioned storefronts, old toys and trains, cameras and telephones. Some spent more time than others browsing around this larger-than-you-might-think barn of motorcycles, cars and so much more.

Our last stop before heading for home was Scoreboard Sports Tavern.  The service was great and the food was wholesome.

This weekend was a great success as we all were able to meet new friends, enjoy the rides, relax and relate to each other.  We were all rejuvenated and are already looking forward to next years SWR Camp N Ride.

Hope to see you all and many more next year!  Our thanks goes out to Steel Steeds Campground, Elk Creek Café, Bill’s Old Bike Barn and Scoreboard Sports Tavern for making this a comfortable and relaxing weekend and for being a part of living the dream!
